Content Highlights
Multiple myeloma is a malignant plasma-cell proliferative disorder with an expected 19,920 new cases and 10,690 deaths in the United States in 2008. Myeloma accounts for about 1% of all malignancies and is the second most common hematologic malignancy. The male-to-female ratio is 1.3 to 1, and the median age at diagnosis is 70 years of age.
